ethnicity & race
nasw is committed to social justice for all and ending racism. discrimination and prejudice directed against any group are damaging to the social, emotional, and economic well-being of the affected group and of society as a whole.
nasw has a strong affirmative action program that applies to national and chapter leadership and staff. it supports three national committees on equity issues: the national committee on women's issues, national committee on racial and ethnic diversity, and the national committee on gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues.
the deaths of unarmed african american people at the hands
of police — including george floyd, breonna taylor and philando castile — sadly
remind us that racism and racial profiling is still rampant in the united
states.
nasw has
compiled
resources to help social workers address racism and race-based violence.
